Senior AI Applied Scientist II (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of hire and must not require current or future employer visa sponsorship.

Salary: CAD 150,000–177,000 per year, depending on experience and geographic location.

What you will do

• Own an AI model domain end to end, from problem framing and experiment design through validation and production deployment.
• Fine-tune and align large language models using SFT, PEFT/LoRA, DPO, and RLHF on clinical text, radiology reports, and longitudinal patient histories.
• Design and operationalize autonomous and semi-autonomous agentic AI systems with tool use, planning, workflow orchestration, multi-step reasoning, and memory.
• Build automated and human-in-the-loop NLP evaluation frameworks covering clinical accuracy, hallucinations, reasoning, safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate on multimodal systems connecting imaging foundation models with LLMs, structured laboratory data, and clinical text.
• Establish data quality, clinical annotation, knowledge grounding, RAG, validation, monitoring, and clinical sign-off practices while collaborating across clinical, annotation, product, and ML Engineering teams.

Requirements

• Strong MSc or PhD in computer science, computational linguistics, AI/ML, statistics, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• At least 4 academic or industry years of ML/NLP experience with a strong publication or applied-research record, including first-author work in leading ML/NLP venues.
• Expert-level PyTorch and proficiency with modern LLM tooling such as Hugging Face Transformers, Unsloth, vLLM, DeepSpeed, or Axolotl.
• Hands-on experience with SFT, LoRA, QLoRA, RLHF, and DPO applied to open-source foundation models such as Llama, Qwen, or Mistral.
• Experience designing LLM agents, evaluation suites, benchmark metrics, hallucination mitigation, semantic search, and RAG using frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, or CrewAI.
• Strong collaboration skills across ML Engineering, Product, and Clinical Operations, with the ability to deliver LLM and agent models to production standards.

Nice to have

• Experience fine-tuning LLMs on medical or clinical text corpora, including EHRs, DICOM structured reports, or PubMed.
• Experience integrating vision-language models with medical imaging pipelines.
• Familiarity with FDA guidance for AI/ML-based Software as a Medical Device or clinical decision-support tools.
• Experience in health tech, biotech, or clinical AI environments.
