TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer Lead - 2nd Shift (Automotive Manufacturing): Leading process engineers and developing, improving, and documenting manufacturing processes for propulsion systems with an accent on process optimization, quality planning, and continuous improvement. Focus on analyzing first-time quality data, implementing PPAP and GMS principles, coordinating cross-functional engineering work, and resolving complex manufacturing problems.

Location: On-site at the Toledo, Ohio plant; full-time on-site work, 2nd shift from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., Monday–Friday, with weekend availability required

What you will do

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of a team of process engineers, including objectives, results management, coaching, and performance evaluation.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing process improvements for propulsion systems.
  • Analyze first-time quality data and optimize processes using statistical tools such as Red X and Design of Experiments.
  • Develop process documentation, including Process Flow Diagrams, Process Control Plans, Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses, task instructions, safe job procedures, and audit sheets.
  • Oversee PPAP and GP-12 activities and support Fast Response, Practical Problem Solving, and Business Plan Deployment initiatives.
  • Coordinate engineering work with plant personnel, central manufacturing engineering, product engineering, vendors, and external sources to improve safety, people, quality, reliability, and cost metrics.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a group of technical professionals and provide technical direction to less experienced engineers.
  • Strong technical knowledge of process engineering disciplines and basic mechanical concepts related to machine design and manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, project management, teaching, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with a high level of autonomy and accountability.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word.
  • Must work full-time on-site at the Toledo, Ohio plant and must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice to have

  • Machining and assembly manufacturing process experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
