Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Ontario; office-first hybrid work with in-office collaboration on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Salary: CA$140,000–CA$230,000 annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Build and operate backend systems for LLM-powered agentic workflows, retrieval pipelines, orchestration layers, and multi-step agent architectures.
• Design and optimize hybrid retrieval, re-ranking, query rewriting, and post-retrieval synthesis systems.
• Develop automated, offline, and human-in-the-loop evaluation frameworks for relevance, quality, latency, and task success.
• Improve production LLM workflows through prompt design, retrieval strategy, caching, and latency optimization.
• Own projects end-to-end, guide architecture decisions, and connect technical priorities to customer outcomes.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and data teams while evaluating advances in LLMs, retrieval, and agentic reasoning.

Requirements

• Production backend engineering experience in search and retrieval, data pipelines, distributed systems, or API-heavy architectures.
• Hands-on experience with information retrieval, ranking, relevance tuning, query understanding, or retrieval-augmented generation.
• Strong Python and software engineering fundamentals, including APIs, testing, reliability, observability, infrastructure, and CI/CD.
• Experience with vector databases or search infrastructure such as FAISS, PGVector, Pinecone, Weaviate, Elasticsearch, or OpenSearch.
• Experience building scalable, low-latency, highly available systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Ability to lead projects, make architectural decisions, provide technical direction, and maintain a customer-oriented approach.

Nice to have

• Experience designing multi-agent systems, complex orchestration workflows, conversational search, or dialogue systems.
• Open-source contributions or external writing and speaking related to search, retrieval, or the LLM ecosystem.
