Senior AI Engineer

Location: Remote, with collaboration within +/- 4 hours of GMT

What you will do

• Design and ship AI agent systems from early experiments through production.
• Own the data access layer, retrieval strategy, and integrations with Metabase, internal APIs, and existing infrastructure.
• Build an evaluation framework with golden datasets, regression harnesses, and retrieval-versus-generation failure analysis.
• Set the technical direction for AI agent architecture and identify opportunities to create product leverage.
• Collaborate with the AI Product Lead and Platform team through technical decision-making, peer review, and documentation.
• Expand the role and help shape the foundations of an early-stage AI pod.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years working directly on LLM or AI agent systems in production.
• Strong understanding of agent architecture, context management, tool use, retrieval strategies, and prompt design.
• Experience building evaluation frameworks, including golden datasets, regression testing, and retrieval-versus-generation failure analysis.
• Comfort working across the stack.
• Clear written communication and the ability to explain technical decisions precisely to non-technical stakeholders.
• Availability for collaboration within +/- 4 hours of GMT

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payroll, HR technology, or employee benefits.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, or the broader Microsoft ecosystem.
• Experience generating synthetic evaluation data before real usage data is available.
• Experience in early-stage or scale-up environments with evolving architecture.
