OpenShift Senior Engineer (Kubernetes/OpenShift)

Location: Hybrid, with at least two days per week or 40% of working time at the Manchester, Leeds, or Edinburgh office sites

What you will do

• Set technical direction and architectural guardrails for OpenShift, Kubernetes, and supporting hybrid cloud services.
• Lead design decisions involving resilience, security, scalability, compliance, sustainability, and operational efficiency.
• Own complex multi-squad initiatives, coordinating dependencies, operational readiness, and safe implementation.
• Provide senior technical leadership during major incidents and drive preventative reliability improvements.
• Coach senior and lead engineers in system design, decision-making, and architectural thinking.
• Represent the platform in governance, design reviews, and vendor engagements.

Requirements

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating OpenShift or Kubernetes platforms at scale in private or hybrid cloud environments.
• Deep knowledge of platform internals, lifecycle management, networking, storage, security controls, and integration patterns.
• Experience setting architectural direction and engineering standards across multiple teams or platform domains.
• Experience with secure-by-design and resilience engineering in regulated, high-availability environments, including audit, compliance, and recovery requirements.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, standardisation, and modernisation.
• Strong technical leadership, systems thinking, communication, and experience using Jira to manage Agile delivery across squads.

Nice to have

• Experience enabling AI/ML workloads on Kubernetes, including data pipelines, GPU scheduling, model serving, and governance.
• Experience designing Kubernetes-native serverless or event-driven platforms.
• SRE experience with error budgets, resilience testing, progressive delivery, and platform observability.
• Experience influencing vendor roadmaps, mentoring engineers, building technical communities, and improving cost transparency.
