Sound Assistant (Video Production)

Location: On-site at London Elstree Studios and London Television Centre

Salary: £35,000–£38,000 per year plus £5,441 London Weighting, depending on skills, knowledge and experience.

hirify.global Studioworks provides studio and post-production services for major television broadcasters and production companies, operating facilities in London, Glasgow and Birmingham.

What you will do

• Support sound balance, control and recording for television studio and location productions.
• Assist with rigging, setup and operation of studio and location sound equipment.
• Install and operate microphones, radio microphone systems, in-ear monitoring systems, Fisher booms and microphone poles.
• Operate digital audio workstations, multitrack recording systems, portable recorders, PA systems and sound mixing equipment.
• Manage recorded and spot sound effects, including selection, production, level control and creative input.
• Support location recordings, supervise trainee audio staff and deputise for the Audio Supervisor when required.

Requirements

• Completed basic sound training or an equivalent qualification.
• Experience supporting sound operations in television, theatre, live events, radio or another production environment.
• Operational knowledge of professional audio equipment, microphones, wireless systems and boom poles, including Fisher booms.
• Good aural judgement, listening skills and practical understanding of audio workflows, digital technologies and audio file formats.
• Ability to rig equipment, remain on your feet for extended periods and work outdoors throughout the year.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including occasional evenings, weekends and extended hours, and ability to perform critical audio and visual quality assessments.

Nice to have

• Experience of multi-camera television production.
• Experience in scripted drama, theatre, live events or hospital radio.
• Interest in audio engineering, sound recording and emerging production technologies.
