External Affairs, US Federal (AI Policy)

Location: Washington, DC; based in or willing to relocate to Washington, DC. Hybrid policy requires staff to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time, with some roles requiring more office attendance.

Annual salary: $265,000–$295,000 USD

What you will do

• Advise internal stakeholders and develop public policy positions aligned with Anthropic’s mission.
• Translate complex policy issues into executable federal advocacy strategies and multi-dimensional campaigns.
• Build and manage substantive relationships with members of the Senate Republican conference and other policymakers.
• Coordinate with government affairs, policy, communications, legal, executive, outside counsel, coalitions, and third-party groups.
• Track strategic objectives, measurable milestones, risks, and progress toward policy outcomes.
• Synthesize political dynamics into clear strategic recommendations for senior leadership.

Requirements

• Experience working on policy within government or as a policy advocate, with success achieving legislative or regulatory outcomes in contested policy areas.
• Established relationships with Senate policymakers and officials, including senior policymakers.
• Skills in legislative and regulatory analysis, policy drafting, policy memos, position papers, advocacy messaging, and senior leadership briefings.
• Experience executing policy campaigns involving outside counsel, coalitions, third-party groups, and communications resources.
• Ability to convert strategic objectives into plans with clear milestones and measurable outcomes across multiple policy domains.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Washington, DC. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience required.

• Experience in technology policy, emerging technology regulation, or policy areas affected by rapid innovation.
• Experience translating complex technical topics into politically viable policy positions and messaging.
• Experience providing strategic counsel to senior leadership and managing internal stakeholders.
