Senior Software Engineer – Mainframe

Salary: $97,100–$161,800 annual USD, with the applicable range varying by location.

What you will do

• Deliver secure, resilient, and maintainable IBM z/OS mainframe solutions across analysis, design, implementation, validation, and production support.
• Translate business and technical requirements into reliable batch, online, interface, and data-processing capabilities.
• Troubleshoot application, CICS transaction, batch, interface, data-flow, restart/recovery, and downstream-impact issues.
• Execute SDLC, testing, release-readiness, change-control, deployment, and production-verification activities.
• Support modernization, API enablement, MQ and distributed-platform integration, technical debt reduction, and platform resiliency.
• Collaborate with business, product, architecture, QA, operations, and engineering teams while guiding less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree and at least 5 years of systems analysis and/or application development experience, or at least 7 combined years of higher education and/or work experience including 5 years of relevant experience.
• IBM z/OS mainframe application development experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2 for z/OS, VSAM, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, Easytrieve+, and related tools.
• Strong experience with batch and online processing, job-stream analysis, restartability, scheduling dependencies, ABEND resolution, CICS troubleshooting, and production-impact assessment.
• Experience with DB2 SQL, data validation and reconciliation, copybooks and file layouts, interface analysis, and performance troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of modern IBM z development tools such as IDz, ADDI, DBB, ZUnit, z/OS Connect, ZDIH, and mainframe debugging tools.
• Experience with GitLab, source control, code review, CI/CD, release and change management, SDLC, Agile delivery, Jira, Zephyr, and ServiceNow.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting banking, lending, payments, servicing, or other regulated enterprise applications.
• Experience with modernization, platform migration, API enablement, MQ/service integration, resiliency, observability, monitoring, and automated testing.
• Familiarity with RACF, mainframe security, disaster recovery, audit evidence, risk, regulatory, and internal-control requirements.
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools for code analysis, documentation, testing, or operational support with human review.
