TL;DR

Technical Lead (Mainframe): Leading the modernization of core insurance platforms by evolving legacy systems into cloud-enabled, API-driven ecosystems with an accent on mainframe engineering and architectural alignment. Focus on designing scalable solutions using COBOL/DB2, implementing DevSecOps practices, and driving the transition to cloud-integrated architectures.

Location: Hybrid arrangement in Australia (3 days in office, 2 days from home)

What you will do

  • Lead the design, development, and optimization of mainframe applications across COBOL, CICS, JCL, and DB2 environments.
  • Drive the evolution of legacy platforms into modern, API-enabled, and cloud-integrated solutions.
  • Own solution design and ensure technical delivery aligns with architectural roadmaps and engineering standards.
  • Champion emerging engineering practices, including automation, DevSecOps, and AI-assisted development.
  • Partner with architects and chapter leads to uplift code quality, testing standards, and design patterns.
  • Contribute hands-on through development and proof of concepts to enable high-quality delivery.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience leading teams in delivering complex, enterprise-scale systems across distributed and mainframe environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in COBOL, CICS, JCL, and DB2.
  • Proven track record of modernizing legacy applications into API-driven or cloud-integrated architectures.
  • Strong understanding of DevOps/DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software delivery.
  • Broad technical capability across backend services, integration, and cloud technologies such as AWS.
  • Must be based in Australia to fulfill hybrid office requirements.
