Lab Technician (Pulp and Paper)

Location: Onsite in DeRidder, Louisiana, United States

Salary: $58,000–$65,000 per year; salary non-exempt with paid overtime.

What you will do

• Verify the accuracy and sufficiency of process data generated through manual operator testing and automated laboratory equipment.
• Train and cross-train hourly employees, write testing procedures, and support testing functions in the assigned process area.
• Maintain, repair, calibrate, and validate laboratory testing equipment, including inventorying standards and spare parts.
• Support quality teams, process trials, troubleshooting, analytical testing, and reporting while advising supervisors, engineers, and operators.
• Perform atmospheric testing for vessel entry and hot work permits, collect environmental samples, and record effluent and potable water analysis data.
• Assist with spill response, containment, wastewater treatment system health, weekend environmental duty, and weekly call duty.

Requirements

• Post-high-school education in a science or technical curriculum, or 3–5 years of specialized paper mill or laboratory experience.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Basic chemistry knowledge and the ability to perform analytical testing and make sound independent decisions.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, handle ambiguity and change, and build effective internal and external relationships.
• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and computer skills.
