Lab Technician (Pulp and Paper)

Location: Onsite in DeRidder, Louisiana, United States

Salary: $58,000–$65,000 per year; salary non-exempt with paid overtime

What you will do

• Validate process data generated by manual operator testing and automated laboratory equipment.
• Support quality and production activities, troubleshoot processes, and advise supervisors, engineers, and hourly employees on testing and process issues.
• Maintain laboratory testing equipment through calibration, repairs, preventative maintenance, requisitions, and spare-parts inventory management.
• Write and update testing procedures, add new tests and equipment, and train or cross-train hourly employees and other lab technicians.
• Perform atmospheric testing for vessel entry and hot work permits, collect environmental samples, and analyze process effluent and potable water.
• Support spill response, wastewater treatment operations, quality teams, trials, projects, weekend environmental duty, and weekly call duty.

Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Post-high-school education in a science or technical curriculum, or 3–5 years of equivalent experience in a specialized paper mill or laboratory.
• Ability to understand and apply basic chemistry.
• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and computer skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, make sound independent decisions, and solve problems using detailed information.
• Ability to work with ambiguity and change and build effective relationships with internal and external customers.
