Sr. Automation Control Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: On-site in Waltham and Billerica, Massachusetts; must live within commuting distance of Waltham, Norwood, and Billerica. Regular travel across hirify.global’s Massachusetts sites is required. Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Salary: $149,000–$164,000 per year

What you will do

• Provide daily technical support for manufacturing equipment and diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and basic control-system issues.
• Design, install, qualify, and improve automation systems, including robotics, cobots, palletizers, automated dispensing systems, vision inspection systems, and OEM equipment.
• Connect equipment to SCADA/AVEVA Wonderware, OSIsoft PI Historian, PLC/HMI platforms, and future MES/EBR systems.
• Manage vendor selection, FAT/SAT, commissioning, project scope, schedules, and quality objectives.
• Create and maintain URS, FRS, change controls, test protocols, drawings, and technical documentation.
• Deliver IQ/OQ/PQ validation packages and advance automation, error-proofing, reliability, and process-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• At least 8 years of automation experience, preferably in medical devices, diagnostics, biotechnology, or another regulated industry.
• Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills with strong experience in Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC systems.
• Experience with controls engineering, industrial automation architecture, sensors, instrumentation, motion, communication protocols, SCADA, PI Historian, robotics, cobots, and industrial vision systems.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Minitab, and SAP, plus experience with URS/FRS, FAT/SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, GMP, GDP, ISO 13485, and FDA QSR documentation.
• Must live within commuting distance of Waltham, Norwood, and Billerica; relocation assistance is not provided. Ability to work across multiple sites and perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 25–50 pounds.

Nice to have

• ISA Certified Automation Professional certification or similar credential.
