Senior Principal Controls Engineer (Manufacturing Automation)

Location: Round Lake, Illinois; onsite, full-time role with less than 10% travel

Salary: $128,000–$176,000 annually, with potential discretionary bonus eligibility

What you will do

• Identify control system improvements, address obsolescence risks, and improve manufacturing equipment reliability.
• Troubleshoot and optimize automated equipment at machine and system level to improve throughput, uptime, and repeatability.
• Develop improvement strategies aligned with site priorities and long-term business goals.
• Advance automation, data integration, and Industry 4.0 initiatives across the manufacturing site.
• Author, execute, and report on equipment and process validation activities, including test protocols.
• Lead NCR/CAPA investigations, corrective and preventive actions, change controls, and complex engineering initiatives while providing technical direction and employee oversight.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to work onsite full-time in Round Lake, Illinois, with less than 10% travel.
• Ability to work in a Penicillin/Cephalosporin facility.
• Strong understanding of regulatory compliance, safety standards, validation practices, and validation protocol development.
• Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and Safety PLCs, HMIs, Fanuc/Staubli robotics, Cognex/Keyence vision systems, and Rockwell/Yaskawa servo systems.
• Familiarity with motion control, VFDs, encoders, hydraulics, pneumatics, and hands-on mechanical work.
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with serialization and SCADA systems.
• Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies, including AI-based vision and robotics.
• Exposure to Six Sigma, DFSS, and Voice of Customer methodologies.
