Staff Backend Engineer (Java)

Location: Milpitas, California, United States (hybrid)

Salary: USD 155,000–225,000 per year, with potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for hirify.global products and services.
• Build robust RESTful APIs supporting mobile and web clients.
• Write clean, maintainable code together with unit, component, integration, and automated tests.
• Manage and optimize distributed systems in AWS and other cloud environments.
• Prototype solutions, troubleshoot issues, analyze bottlenecks, and improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and collaborate with stakeholders, project managers, QA teams, and engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience developing secure, high-performance web applications.
• Strong computer science fundamentals, algorithms, and system design knowledge.
• Hands-on experience with Java, AWS cloud services, Git, distributed systems, and cloud-native technologies.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, challenge assumptions, and propose innovative solutions.

Nice to have

• Experience designing RESTful APIs, especially for mobile applications.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
• Experience with DynamoDB or other NoSQL databases.
