Staff Backend Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Hybrid in Sunnyvale, California, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote; must be able to report to the local office. Requires 20% domestic travel.

Salary: $264,514–$310,900 annually, plus bonus potential.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and maintain large-scale backend systems and APIs.
• Lead technical design and implementation of distributed, service-oriented, and event-driven systems.
• Review code and technical designs for quality, reliability, security, and performance.
• Troubleshoot complex production incidents and lead root-cause analysis and remediation.
• Build and operate microservices across cloud and containerized environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 8 years of software engineering experience; alternatively, a master’s degree with 6 years of experience.
• At least 5 years of experience with Java, Kotlin, distributed systems, and microservices architectures.
• At least 4 years of experience with RESTful APIs, asynchronous messaging, event-driven systems, relational and NoSQL databases, and data modeling.
• At least 3 years of experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, containerized environments, CI/CD, automated testing, deployment practices, and backend security.
• Must work from the Sunnyvale office 3 days per week and be available for 20% domestic travel.
