Senior Prototype Machinist (5-Axis CNC)

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. The role requires a U.S. person who is a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $46.75–$63.25 per hour, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

What you will do

• Program, set up, and operate 5-axis CNC machines to manufacture complex aerospace components to tolerances as tight as ±0.0005 inches.
• Machine titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, carbon composites, and other materials while maintaining surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
• Develop advanced CAM toolpaths using Mastercam, HSMWorks, or equivalent software, including high-speed machining, trochoidal milling, and adaptive clearing.
• Design and implement fixturing and work-holding solutions for one-off prototype parts.
• Use on-machine probing, macros, and precision inspection equipment for alignment, verification, and adaptive machining.
• Own machining processes from raw material selection through final inspection, collaborating with engineering on DFM and process improvements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of 5-axis CNC machining experience focused on aerospace or high-precision components.
• Proficiency with CAM software such as Mastercam, HyperMILL, or Esprit and 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX.
• Strong understanding of G-code, M-code, CNC program editing, GD&T, blueprint interpretation, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Experience machining titanium, Inconel, and carbon fiber composites.
• Hands-on experience with micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, CMMs, and other precision inspection tools.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required for ITAR compliance.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of manual and CNC machining experience, including advanced 5-axis operations.
• Experience designing and fabricating complex fixturing and work-holding solutions.
• Experience leading or mentoring junior machinists.
• Knowledge of mill-turns, live-tool lathes, production tracking tools such as Jira, and continuous improvement methods.
