TL;DR
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Internship (Aerospace) (Hazard Analysis/Environmental Compliance): Supporting safe spacecraft, pharmaceutical, engineering, and manufacturing operations with an accent on hazard identification, chemical handling, hazardous waste management, and safety system inspections. Focus on leading job hazard analyses, implementing safety controls, and preparing emergency response procedures.

Location: Full-time, on-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Spring internship dates run between January and May 2027 and depend on the selected student's university schedule.

Hourly rate: $33.00. Housing stipend is available for interns relocating to the area, with a commuter benefit for local transportation.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Lead Job Hazard Analyses across engineering, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical operations.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and collaborate with departments to implement safety controls.
  • Support safe hazardous-chemical handling through Hazard Communication and PPE programs.
  • Guide departments on the accumulation and disposal of hazardous waste to maintain environmental compliance.
  • Inspect and maintain safety systems and equipment, including emergency eyewashes, showers, fire extinguishers, and fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Assist with emergency action plans, drills, and first aid, CPR, and AED training.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program.
  • Pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health, environmental engineering or safety, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Cal/OSHA, Cal/EPA, RCRA, SCAQMD, DOT, and California Fire Code standards.
  • Hands-on experience conducting risk assessments and implementing safety controls.
  • Prior EHS internship or project experience in an engineering or laboratory setting.
