TL;DR
Senior Mission Software Engineer (Python/Space Systems): Building high-reliability ground-segment services, mission-control interfaces, simulation tools, and deployment infrastructure for spacecraft operations with an accent on telemetry, commanding, real-time data systems, and safety-critical software. Focus on designing deterministic services, automating flight-software testing, building self-service CI/CD and infrastructure tooling, and deploying safely across air-gapped mission environments.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Employment requires authorization to work in the U.S. and eligibility as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Salary: $169,000–$216,000 annually, plus potential stock options.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain high-reliability services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and spacecraft commanding.
  • Build operator-grade mission-control UIs and dashboards for integration, testing, and on-orbit operations.
  • Create flight-software simulations, device emulators, scenario-based automated tests, and hardware-in-the-loop frameworks.
  • Design self-service mission-platform tooling, including CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, service templates, infrastructure as code, test harnesses, and observability.
  • Develop deployment patterns and safe rollout and rollback strategies for lab, test-range, mission-network, and air-gapped environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
  • 5+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
  • Strong Python development skills and systems fundamentals in concurrency, networking, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience building real-time data acquisition, low-latency messaging, telemetry distribution, time-series, and relational data services.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, dependency and build systems, infrastructure as code, logging, metrics, tracing, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export-control requirements.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in C++, Ansible, or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with DAQ, closed-loop control, flight-software testing, simulation, or mission-grade operator interfaces.
  • Knowledge of safety-critical certification workflows, ground-system standards, or security in mission networks.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment with flexible PTO and 12 paid holidays.
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance with FSA and employer-matched HSA options.
  • Parental leave, family-building support, wellness reimbursement, and One Medical memberships.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% immediately vested employer match and equity incentive eligibility.
  • Relocation support may be available for new hires, with meals, EV charging, and team events provided on site.
