Legal Counsel, Privacy & Security (Cybersecurity)

Location: London, UK; office attendance required 3 out of 5 days. Some European and US travel may be required.

What you will do

• Provide legal counsel on privacy and information security inquiries, programs, initiatives, and compliance matters.
• Advise enterprise and business stakeholders on embedding privacy and information security principles into business plans and strategic initiatives.
• Support the creation and maintenance of privacy policies, data inventories, records of processing, and governance documentation.
• Monitor and help implement UK, EU, and international privacy and information security requirements, including GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, NIS2, and the Cyber Resilience Act.
• Advise on data governance, retention, minimization, incident response, privacy impact assessments, and post-acquisition integration.
• Support the Data Protection Officer and conduct employee awareness and training activities.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of combined legal experience in a top law firm and/or in-house legal department, including 1–3 years of privacy and information security experience.
• Strong practical knowledge of UK and European privacy and information security legislation, especially GDPR, the ePrivacy Directive, NIS2, and the Cyber Resilience Act.
• Experience reviewing, drafting, and negotiating privacy, data protection, data processing, information security, and data transfer agreements.
• Experience conducting privacy impact assessments and advising on legal, regulatory, and technical requirements.
• Strong ability to translate complex requirements into practical business guidance, manage multiple projects, and work independently.
• Juris Doctor and strong academic credentials required.

Nice to have

• Recognized privacy or cybersecurity qualification such as CIPP/E or equivalent.
• Experience with privacy management platforms and productivity tools such as Copilot and Harvey.
• Experience working within a global privacy framework and knowledge of additional international privacy laws.
