TL;DR
Weld Engineer II (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Developing and qualifying weld processes for precision mechanical, vacuum, and gas/chemical delivery assemblies used in semiconductor manufacturing equipment with an accent on orbital and manual GTAW, high-purity fabrication, and welder qualification. Focus on investigating weld defects, performing root-cause analysis, validating nondestructive testing, and improving process capability, yield, and cycle time.

Location: Austin, TX; primarily on-site with some hybrid flexibility depending on business needs. Occasional presence in fabrication shop and cleanroom-adjacent environments is required. Travel is required, up to 15% of the time.

Salary: $78,500–$108,000 annually

What you will do

  • Develop, qualify, and document WPS and PQR records for orbital GTAW, manual GTAW, and other welding processes.
  • Define and validate welding parameters for new product introductions and design changes involving stainless steel and specialty alloys.
  • Lead welder and welding-operator qualification programs and certify welders and orbital welding equipment.
  • Investigate weld nonconformances and field failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Specify and review dye penetrant, radiographic, helium leak, destructive, and metallurgical testing methods.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, manufacturing, suppliers, and production teams to improve process capability, yield, cost, and cycle time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Typically 2–4 years of relevant welding, manufacturing, or process engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing WPS/PQR documentation and leading welder qualification programs.
  • Required experience with orbital and manual GTAW welding of stainless steel and specialty alloys such as Hastelloy and Inconel.
  • Working knowledge of ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1/D1.6, and SEMI standards.
  • Ability to work hands-on with welding equipment and operators and produce engineering documentation.

Nice to have

  • Certified Welding Inspector certification.
  • Certified Welding Engineer certification or progress toward it.
  • Experience with NDT methods, metallurgical cross-sections, 8D, FMEA, DOE, SPC, CAD/PLM, and MES/ERP systems.
