Associate Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Hybrid in Richardson/Dallas, Texas, United States; travel is required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable law and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and claim value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations under oath, trials, and dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the Texas Bar and an active license in good standing required.
• Two to six or more years of related litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury required.
• Maintain applicable licensing and mandatory Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Demonstrate strong legal writing, organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict-resolution, and communication skills.
• Ability to learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
