Senior Trial Attorney - Chicago (Hybrid)

Location: Chicago, Illinois; hybrid schedule with 2 days in the office and 3 days remote

Salary: $146,000–$189,000 per year

What you will do

• Represent insureds before courts in defense of litigated claims, including complex and high-exposure matters.
• Analyze legal and factual issues, conduct legal research, and develop and present defense strategies.
• Prepare pleadings, written discovery, motions, and briefs.
• Prepare for and handle trials, appeals, depositions, court appearances, and related case activities.
• Advise claims professionals and clients on legal and factual issues and provide training to the Claims Department.
• Communicate with courts, witnesses, opposing counsel, clients, and other stakeholders; travel by car for approximately 20% of the role.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing of the relevant Bar and knowledge of state laws and local court procedures.
• 15+ years of litigation experience in the jurisdiction preferred.
• Experience trying 15 or more matters before a judge or jury in the highest trial court jurisdiction preferred.
• Strong legal research, writing, oral communication, analytical, litigation, and independent judgment skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Edge or Chrome, legal case management software, and typing; a valid state-issued driver's license in good standing is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with TeamConnect and dictation software.
• Multi-state Bar admission.
• Detailed knowledge of the relevant business unit and insurance industry.
