Senior Tooling Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements: U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Salary: $118,400–$148,000 base annually, plus equity, discretionary performance bonuses, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own production tooling design and delivery from concept through shop-floor or field deployment.
• Develop tooling for antenna alignment, installation, robotic dispensing, lifting, assembly, precision positioning, and field deployment.
• Prototype, mature, commission, troubleshoot, and improve automated and semi-automated production equipment.
• Integrate sensors, actuators, control panels, PLC logic, HMIs, motion-control hardware, and machine safety features.
• Create CAD models, detailed drawings, bills of materials, work instructions, commissioning plans, and maintenance documentation.
• Drive improvements in cycle time, ergonomics, safety, repeatability, and first-pass production success.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, mechatronics, robotics, electrical engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing, building, or supporting tooling, fixtures, production equipment, manufacturing systems, or automation equipment.
• Strong mechanical design fundamentals covering structures, mechanisms, tolerances, material selection, manufacturability, and maintainability.
• Experience with CAD, drawing release workflows, hands-on hardware debugging, and equipment used by operators or field teams.
• Working knowledge of electromechanical systems, pneumatics, actuators, sensors, motors, motion control, PLCs, ladder logic, relays, HMIs, and machine safety systems.
• Must satisfy U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements. Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, AutomationDirect, or similar PLC platforms.
• Experience with ladder logic, structured text, HMI screens, machine control sequences, robotic dispensing, machine vision, precision alignment, or coordinated motion systems.
• Experience designing lifting, rigging, hoist, crane, cart, ergonomic handling, or field deployment equipment.
• Background in aerospace, satellite, RF, robotics, automotive, industrial automation, or other high-reliability hardware production.
• Familiarity with machine guarding, lockout/tagout, risk assessments, and equipment safety standards.
