TL;DR
Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace): Designing and developing advanced satellite propulsion hardware from architecture concepts through prototypes, qualification testing, and high-rate flight production with an accent on mechanical architecture, thermal-structural design, and manufacturability. Focus on building and testing prototype hardware, performing structural and thermal analysis, and transitioning reliable assemblies into sustained production.

Location: On-site in Burlingame, California, United States

Salary: $185,000–$218,000 per year, plus equity

What you will do

  • Lead the mechanical design and architecture of satellite propulsion systems and supporting hardware.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability across precision components and assemblies in collaboration with machine shops and specialty vendors.
  • Select materials, processing methods, heat treatments, and standards for high-temperature and high-vacuum environments.
  • Perform structural and thermal analysis, including FEA, to evaluate margins and survivability during launch and operation.
  • Build, assemble, test, and troubleshoot prototype, engineering-model, and flight hardware, including integration into TVAC facilities.
  • Define inspection, acceptance, assembly, and qualification procedures for transition from prototypes to sustained production.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience leading mechanical hardware development from concept through prototype and production.
  • Strong Design for Manufacturability skills and direct experience working with machinists and vendors.
  • Expert-level GD&T and tolerance analysis using ASME Y14.5.
  • Deep materials knowledge, including refractory metals and ceramics, plus proficiency with mechanical CAD and structural and thermal finite element modelling.
  • For U.S. roles, applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or other protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Nice to have

  • Experience with spaceflight or aerospace hardware and qualification workflows.
  • Background in aerospace, plasma devices, or vacuum systems.
  • Experience with hardware integration, assembly, or environmental testing.
