TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Data Center Hardware): Designing and bringing high-power data center chassis and enclosure products from concept through production with an accent on cooling efficiency, ruggedness, tooling, and manufacturability. Focus on translating industrial design concepts into production-ready solutions, managing JDM integration, and validating designs against shock and vibration requirements.

Location: On-site in San Jose, California

Salary: $150,000–$275,000 per year, plus significant equity

What you will do

  • Develop and refine mechanical designs for high-power data center products from appearance models through production-ready designs.
  • Lead the design of data center chassis and enclosures, with emphasis on power, cooling efficiency, reliability, and ruggedness.
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external Joint Design Manufacturer partners to integrate mechanical designs into the overall product architecture.
  • Manage soft and hard tooling development for mass production and ensure quality and consistency.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to optimize assembly, maintenance, cost, and production efficiency.
  • Ensure designs meet manufacturing requirements, including shock and vibration standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of mechanical engineering experience focused on high-power data center products, chassis, and enclosures.
  • Strong mechanical design expertise and experience converting industrial design concepts into production-ready models.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, FX, CATIA, or similar software.
  • Deep understanding of soft and hard tooling, manufacturing requirements, cooling, shock, and vibration testing.
  • Must work on-site in San Jose.

  • Advanced degrees or certifications in mechanical design or manufacturing.
