Consultant, Field Underwriter - Commercial Lines (P&C Small Commercial Insurance) - Nebraska & Colorado

Location: Work from home within the assigned Nebraska and Colorado territory; preferably based in Nebraska. Approximately 30–50% travel to agency partners and customer locations is required, including overnight travel averaging one week per month.

Salary: $104,000–$194,000 annually; expected starting range: $104,000–$156,000.

What you will do

• Independently underwrite and price complex and specialized commercial risks within expanded authority levels.
• Analyze financials, loss-control reports, industry trends, and predictive data to assess risk and recommend coverage solutions.
• Manage a field underwriting territory focused on new-business production, portfolio mix, underwriting appetite, and profitability.
• Build agency relationships through in-person meetings, embedded quoting, complex negotiations, and strategic planning.
• Monitor market developments, emerging risks, and competitor activity, contributing to underwriting guideline and tool improvements.
• Mentor field underwriters and support product orientation and training for agents and internal teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 6–8 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience, including experience handling complex risks and portfolios.
• Production and agency-management orientation with strong knowledge of agency operations and market dynamics.
• Expert understanding of commercial underwriting principles, risk management, and industry-specific exposures.
• Exceptional analytical, consultative, communication, and influencing skills.
• Must live within the assigned Nebraska and Colorado territory and maintain a safe driving record; regular field travel is required.

Nice to have

• At least 10 years of commercial insurance underwriting experience with authority.
• Prior field underwriting or territory management experience.
• Agency or brokerage experience.
• Advanced insurance designations or coursework, such as CPCU, CIC, AU, or ARM.
