TL;DR
Automation Engineer (Semiconductor): Designing and delivering automation and control systems for EFEM, robotics, and factory-automation platforms used in semiconductor and advanced-packaging manufacturing with an accent on substrate handling, equipment integration, and SEMI standards. Focus on developing PLC, HMI, and SCADA solutions, integrating robotics and connectivity systems, and solving complex reliability and uptime challenges across wafer and panel processing.

Location: Onsite in Tainan, Taiwan; 25% travel to customer and supplier sites. Relocation is not eligible.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and implement automation and control systems for front-end, ICAPS, and advanced-packaging processes.
  • Integrate automation and control solutions into digital lithography, wafer inspection, and contamination and defect inspection systems.
  • Develop PLC, HMI, SCADA, and data-connectivity solutions for EFEM and substrate-transfer platforms.
  • Troubleshoot automation, control, and connectivity issues and perform root-cause analysis to maintain equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation requirements and deliver sustainable solutions.
  • Maintain system documentation and ensure compliance with SEMI standards and Industry 4.0 practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in automation, control, or semiconductor equipment engineering.
  • EFEM expertise covering wafer and panel handling, loadport, OHT, AGV, and conveyor integration.
  • Experience with industrial robotics and automated substrate-handling system integration.
  • Experience with PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA development, electrical automation design, sensors, actuators, and control theory.
  • Familiarity with SECS/GEM, E84, and E87 compliance requirements, plus strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

Nice to have

  • Mechanical engineering design, including GD&T, mechanism design, material selection, and structural or thermal analysis.
  • CAD proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, or NX.
  • Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies, IoT, AI/ML, cyber-physical systems, or AI in robotics.
  • Business-process analysis and evaluation of automation investment trade-offs.
