Mobile Engineer - Android (IoT)

Location: PA - Philadelphia, 1800 Arch St, United States. On-site collaboration is generally preferred.

What you will do

• Build and maintain native Android features for Home Protection and smart home experiences.
• Develop Kotlin-based mobile functionality for real-time device interactions, mode switching, and onboarding journeys.
• Implement and expand backend-driven mobile UI frameworks using Spec-Driven Development and JSON schemas.
• Collaborate with product, backend, Android, iOS, and device teams on end-to-end solutions.
• Contribute to application architecture, design reviews, code reviews, and technical decisions.
• Improve performance and reliability while debugging connectivity issues across hardware and software integration layers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of professional Android development experience; relevant work experience is listed as 5–7 years.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin and modern Android development.
• Hands-on experience with Spec-Driven Development or dynamically rendered UI frameworks driven by backend JSON schemas.
• Experience integrating RESTful APIs and managing complex client-side state logic.
• Familiarity with MVVM, Clean Architecture, or similar patterns, plus strong debugging and problem-solving skills.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, with equivalent coursework or experience also considered.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with Flutter and Dart.
• Experience with smart home, IoT, hardware activation, or physical device orchestration workflows.
• Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, Android permissions, privacy constraints, and app lifecycles.
• Experience building or maintaining large-scale consumer applications.
