Principal Android Engineer (AI)

Salary: USD 215,000–295,000 per year, with potential bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own the Android app's architectural vision, including modularization, state management, navigation, networking, and module boundaries.
• Design, implement, review, and ship significant Android features and platform improvements.
• Address complex technical challenges in real-time video streaming, security notifications, background execution, latency, reliability, battery life, and performance.
• Lead incremental migrations and large-scale refactors, including Jetpack Compose, modern asynchronous patterns, and cleaner module structures.
• Define engineering standards for testing, code reviews, CI/CD, release health, crash-free rates, observability, and performance.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with product, design, backend, firmware, and QA teams on technical direction and delivery.

Requirements

• Expert-level Kotlin, including coroutines and Flow, with deep knowledge of Android framework internals and lifecycle behavior.
• Strong experience with Jetpack libraries, including Compose, ViewModel, Navigation, Room, WorkManager, DataStore, and Media3/ExoPlayer.
• Proven ability to design and evolve large, multi-module Android codebases, optimize Gradle builds, and use dependency injection with Hilt or Dagger.
• Experience with unit, integration, and UI testing, mobile CI/CD, staged rollouts, feature flags, profiling, and performance optimization.
• Ability to influence technical direction, communicate complex trade-offs, mentor engineers, and lead migrations in live high-traffic applications.
• Experience defining guardrails and engineering practices for AI-assisted development, including code review, security, architecture, testing, and maintainability.

Nice to have

• Experience with real-time media and streaming technologies such as WebRTC, RTSP, codecs, adaptive bitrate, or peer-to-peer video.
• Connected-device experience involving BLE and Wi-Fi provisioning, pairing, firmware updates, and state synchronization.
• Expertise in reliable push notifications, background and foreground services, on-device security, offline-first networking, or Android device fragmentation.
• Experience sharing code across iOS and Android, contributing to open source, technical writing, or conference talks.
• Familiarity with Matter, Google Home, Alexa, Wear OS, Android TV, or backend and firmware collaboration.
