Software Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Location: Los Angeles, CA (on-site); facility located in Hawthorne, CA

Compensation: $34/hour for undergraduate engineering interns, $36/hour for master's interns, or $38/hour for PhD interns

Develops software-defined autonomous metal 3D printing factories using advanced sensing, real-time controls, and data-driven learning for scalable physical production.

What you will do

• Support software design and development for production-scale metal 3D printing systems.
• Collaborate with process, control, and mechanical engineers to integrate control algorithms into production software.
• Improve and scale high-rate data acquisition, storage, and retrieval systems.
• Contribute to pipelines that convert customer part geometries into machine-ready print instructions.
• Work on mission-critical infrastructure connecting software and hardware, including controls, data acquisition, and geometry processing.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering at an ABET-accredited institution.
• Internship or engineering club experience involving programming with C/C++, such as FSAE, Baja SAE, robotics, solar car, or rocket clubs.
• Ability to work on-site in the Los Angeles, CA area.

Nice to have

• Master's or PhD in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering.
• Experience with microcontrollers, FPGA, GPU computing, embedded software, or real-time software systems.
• Experience developing software for industrial automation, robotics, or related hardware.
• Linux experience and a hands-on approach to solving complex technical problems.
