Focus on integrating avionics, sensors, and control systems, testing software in simulation and on flight hardware, and completing verification and validation across the full development lifecycle.

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States; on-site

Salary: $125,000–$160,000 for Software Engineer and $165,000–$220,000 for Senior Software Engineer, plus equity.

Company

hirify.global is a defense technology startup developing autonomous defense platforms and decentralized systems for the United States and its allies.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and implement real-time, safety-critical flight software in C, C++, and Rust.
  • Build efficient and reliable embedded software under resource constraints with low-level hardware interaction and deterministic behavior.
  • Integrate flight software with avionics, sensors, and control systems in collaboration with hardware and systems engineers.
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and system-level tests in simulation and on flight hardware.
  • Contribute to requirements analysis, architecture design, coding, verification, and validation.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in C and C++ for embedded systems programming.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded systems or real-time operating environments, device drivers, low-level hardware interaction, and complex embedded architectures.
  • Experience with flight software principles, hard real-time operating environments, aerospace concepts, hardware interfaces, and protocols.
  • Understanding of MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Strong academic background in computer science, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field focused on embedded systems and real-time computing; demonstrated skills may substitute for a degree.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and may need authorization to access technology controlled under U.S. export control laws without export-license sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Background in aerodynamics, aircraft concepts, or avionics.
  • Experience with Guidance, Navigation, and Control systems, including mission and trajectory planning, state estimation, PID, or LQR control laws.
  • Experience with computer vision, perception, or robotics.
  • Rust experience for embedded systems programming.
  • Game development experience, especially console development or low-level systems programming.

Culture & Benefits

  • Equity participation is included in most offers.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement savings plans and paid time off.
  • Funding for continuing education, training, and professional development.
  • Performance-based incentives and transparent compensation tiers.
