Embedded Software Engineer Intern - Fall 2026 (Battery Systems)

What you will do

• Support the design and implementation of bare-metal real-time firmware for power electronics, including PWM generation, ADC synchronization, and timing logic.
• Develop and test drivers for microcontroller peripherals such as SPI, CAN, and Ethernet.
• Collaborate with power electronics controls engineers on Cortex-R and Cortex-M embedded systems.
• Connect power conversion firmware with battery packs for cell monitoring, state-of-charge and state-of-health estimation, and safety communication.
• Maintain build scripts, write testable code, and support CI/CD validation before laboratory deployment.
• Profile and debug embedded code using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD debuggers while contributing to documentation and testing.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Coursework or project experience with C, C++, or Rust and comfort reading and writing low-level code.
• Exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, or digital logic through coursework, personal projects, or internships.
• Safety-conscious mindset, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn real-time safety-critical software development.
• Work location: San Francisco, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, or CAN communication protocols.
• Exposure to battery management systems and energy storage fundamentals.
• Experience with Make, CMake, git, or hands-on hardware debugging.
