System Engineer IV, Platform (Semiconductor)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States. Onsite role with 10% travel; relocation eligible.

Salary: $161,000–$221,000 per year.

What you will do

• Own the architecture and system requirements for next-generation optical inspection and metrology platforms.
• Translate market requirements into high-level and detailed system requirements, conceptual designs, system budgets, models, and simulators.
• Identify and troubleshoot multidisciplinary problems spanning mechanical, electrical, software, and optical domains.
• Develop test plans, procedures, and calibrated test benches for components, modules, and subsystems.
• Lead system integration during assembly and final testing, including integration methods, procedures, and tooling.
• Lead cross-functional engineering teams, set technical direction, manage design trade-offs, milestones, vendors, risks, and technical communication.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5–10 years of industry experience in design and development engineering roles.
• Experience owning system architecture and requirements for complex electro-mechanical or opto-mechanical products through at least one full development cycle to production release.
• Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and simulations.

Nice to have

• Experience in semiconductor capital equipment design and development.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams without direct reporting authority.
• Experience developing and defending system-level error, tolerance, or performance budgets.
• Hands-on experience with test bench design, system integration, and prototype hardware bring-up.
• Experience with platform challenges such as module packaging and interdependencies, vibration risks, particle contamination, cooling solutions, and temperature and environmental control.
