Senior Manager, Engineering (Healthcare Technology)

Location: Remote within the United States; corporate roles are not hired in AK, AR, DE, HI, ME, MS, NM, OK, SD, VT, or WI. Virta is a remote-first company with office hubs in Denver and San Francisco.

Salary: $230,000–$250,000 annually, based on location, qualifications, and experience.

What you will do

• Set technical direction across backend, frontend, data, and third-party systems while balancing technical investment with product delivery.
• Lead a group of engineers and recruit, mentor, retain, and develop engineering managers or team leads.
• Own complex systems and roadmaps covering billing, accounting, member-to-product eligibility, and enrollment.
• Partner with engineering, product, data science, and operations to align programs, measure outcomes, and support rapid experimentation.
• Drive projects to completion, improve engineering processes and architecture, and balance sustainable systems with delivery velocity.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing and providing technical leadership to engineering teams.
• Experience hiring, coaching, or developing engineering managers or team leads.
• Deep expertise across backend, frontend, data, and third-party integrations, with experience building distributed services using Python and/or Go.
• Experience owning complex transactional systems in billing, financial accounting, membership eligibility, or customer enrollment.
• Ability to lead diverse, inclusive, high-performing teams and work effectively in a heavily cross-functional environment.
• Experience in a HIPAA-compliant or similarly regulated environment, such as healthtech or fintech.
