Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote, United States; an office is available in Dallas for employees who prefer an office setting.

Salary: $225,000–$280,000 annually, plus equity. Starting compensation may vary by geographic location, experience, and skills.

What you will do

• Lead the Implementation Platform Configuration and Enrollment Platform Core groups, including 2–3 Engineering Managers and approximately 20–30 engineers.
• Set technical direction for configuration layers, enrollment workflow engines, and event-sourced domain services.
• Improve repeatability and delivery speed by replacing bespoke carrier implementations with configuration-driven patterns.
• Own delivery commitments, cross-team interfaces, incident response, root-cause analysis, and service operations.
• Build scalable automated testing and regression strategies for underwriting and compliance workflows.
• Drive AI development tooling and agentic engineering practices while representing hirify.global with carriers, vendors, and technology partners.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software development experience and 5+ years of progressive engineering management experience, including managing managers.
• Experience designing, building, and operating distributed microservices, event-driven systems, and event-sourced architectures.
• Strong experience with Golang and/or Python, gRPC, REST, asynchronous messaging, PostgreSQL, schema design, data modeling, and query performance.
• Cloud platform experience, preferably Google Cloud Platform and Kubernetes.
• Experience transforming at least one team to fully embrace agentic engineering.
• Ability to lead hiring, develop engineering leaders, manage competing priorities, communicate complex trade-offs, and maintain delivery commitments and SLAs.

Nice to have

• Background in life insurance, annuities, or another regulated industry.
• Experience delivering enterprise or carrier implementations under contractual deadlines.
