Senior Software Developer, Backend (AI)

Location: Toronto, ON, Canada

Salary: CAD 107,000–157,300 base salary annually, with potential bonuses, stock grants, and comprehensive benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and scale AWS-based backend services and APIs for high-frequency sensor and time-series data.
• Build and optimize large-scale, near-real-time data ingestion and processing pipelines.
• Develop backend infrastructure for ML model serving, feature pipelines, and predictive alerting feedback loops.
• Own features from system design through production, including monitoring, reliability, and iteration.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks in data flow, query performance, and service interactions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and AI/ML teams while contributing through design reviews, code reviews, and mentoring.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping large-scale backend systems in production.
• Strong experience with data pipelines, streaming architectures, or large-dataset processing using Kafka, Kinesis, Snowflake, Flink, or similar technologies.
• Hands-on experience with time-series data and strong knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and service-oriented backends.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS services such as Lambda, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, and S3.
• Familiarity with ML infrastructure, observability, debugging, and monitoring-driven development.
• Computer Science degree or related education, or equivalent practical experience; clear communication of technical tradeoffs is required.
