Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Seattle, Washington, United States

Annual salary: $110,000–$230,000

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and production rollout of enterprise applications supporting core underwriting capabilities.
• Architect highly available, scalable, secure, and reliable systems for complex business and customer needs.
• Own solutions end to end, from concept and design through deployment, optimization, and long-term evolution.
• Lead architectural discussions, design and code reviews, modernization of legacy systems, and large-scale technical initiatives.
• Partner with Product Managers and Underwriting Operations to deliver measurable business outcomes.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and raise engineering standards across teams.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated impact in lead- or principal-level roles.
• 4+ years driving architectural design and leading large-scale system initiatives.
• Expertise in at least one modern programming language, such as Java, Go, or C++.
• Experience designing service-oriented architectures using REST, gRPC, or similar protocols.
• Strong knowledge of system architecture, scalability, reliability, performance, DevOps, cloud architecture, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• 4+ years of hands-on cloud experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar platforms, plus experience with observability, monitoring, security, Agile/Scrum, data structures, and algorithms.

• Experience building AI/ML-powered products, conversational interfaces, or applications using LLMs.
