Staff Software Engineer, Agent Gateway (AI)

Location: Hybrid role based in San Francisco, California, for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area

Annual base salary: $194,000–$267,000 USD, plus potential equity, bonus, and benefits.

What you will do

• Architect and deliver gateway capabilities, including virtual MCP server aggregation, agent-to-agent delegation, and on-premises deployment models.
• Own request routing, token exchange, credential resolution, tenant isolation, policy evaluation, and audit logging across data and control planes.
• Track and influence MCP, OAuth token exchange, and agent identity specifications, translating evolving standards into production systems.
• Use Claude, Claude Code, MCP servers, and other agentic tools across design, coding, code review, and operations.
• Drive code quality, testing, observability, incident retrospectives, and technical design practices while mentoring engineers and aligning with adjacent teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building distributed, highly available production backend systems.
• Hands-on production experience with Java and/or Go.
• Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and RFC 8693 token exchange, with the ability to implement specification-driven systems.
• Experience delivering identity, authorization, or edge-network services at scale, including rollouts, feature flags, observability, and incident response.
• Working fluency with agentic development tools such as Claude Code, MCP servers, and AI-assisted code review.
• Strong technical writing, communication, design documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Production experience with MCP servers, agent frameworks, or LLM-facing gateways.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms or enterprise identity providers.
• Contributions to MCP, OAuth, GNAP, DCR, or other agent-identity standards.
