Consultant II - Life Underwriting (Brokerage)

Location: Fully remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states

Salary: $108,000–$200,000 annually; expected starting range: $108,000–$162,000

What you will do

• Evaluate, select, classify, and underwrite complex medical and non-medical life insurance applications within authorized limits.
• Assess medical, financial, accelerated, and alternative evidence of insurability to determine requirements and risk classes.
• Analyze sophisticated financial underwriting cases and establish insurable interest.
• Reach terms on and coordinate automatic and facultative reinsurance within treaty and product requirements.
• Consult on unusual or challenging cases, resolve underwriting issues, and support internal and external partners.
• Lead training, mentor less experienced underwriters, and develop plans for special projects with minimal direction.

Requirements

• Ten years of life underwriting experience.
• Undergraduate studies in a medical-related discipline, insurance, risk management, economics, finance, business management, or marketing.
• Advanced knowledge of medical and financial underwriting, mortality and morbidity risk, insurance products, policy language, and reinsurance.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, judgment, negotiation, communication, presentation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to make highly complex decisions independently, manage ambiguity, and coach or train other underwriters.
• Employer-sponsored work authorization is not available, and hirify.global does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

Nice to have

• AALU designation or professional designations such as Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) or Fellow of Life Management Institute (FLMI).
• EKG certification.
• Experience interpreting electrocardiogram tracings and working with medical directors or facultative reinsurance partners.
