Associate Counsel - West Orange, NJ (Remote)

Location: Remote within the United States; staff counsel office in West Orange, New Jersey, with the listed location in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Travel is required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in New Jersey courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Advise the Claims Department on liability, damages, and case value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New Jersey Bar and an active license in good standing required.
• At least 2 years of litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury required.
• Ability to meet and maintain licensing and continuing legal education requirements.
• Strong written communication, organization, prioritization, multitasking, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to learn and apply complex technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication experience in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
