TL;DR
Field Service Engineer (Semiconductor Manufacturing): Troubleshooting, repairing, installing, upgrading, and improving semiconductor manufacturing equipment with an accent on mechanical, electrical, vacuum, RF, pneumatic, and software systems. Focus on leading equipment recoveries, performing root cause analysis, improving tool uptime and reliability, and supporting customers in cleanroom environments.

Location: Manassas, Virginia, United States. Onsite field service role with 25% travel, 12-hour shift availability, and occasional off-shift, weekend, or emergency recovery work. Relocation eligible.

Salary: $37.00–$51.20 per hour

What you will do

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for corrective maintenance, equipment recovery, escalations, and critical tool outages.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, vacuum, RF, pneumatic, software, and process-related equipment issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to improve uptime, MTBF, equipment effectiveness, and reliability.
  • Support equipment installation, startup, qualification, retrofit, upgrade, and new technology deployment activities.
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineering teams, technical support, management, and customer personnel.
  • Maintain service documentation and promote compliance with environmental, health, safety, LOTO, PPE, and hazardous-material requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills in a technical manufacturing or equipment-support environment.
  • Working knowledge of AC/DC circuits, RF, vacuum systems, pneumatics, electronics, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, engineering drawings, and service procedures.
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and other test tools.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and customers.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts and perform extended standing, cleanroom work, ladder climbing, and lifting up to 35 pounds.

Nice to have

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in electronics, mechatronics, engineering, or a related technical field; military technical training or equivalent experience is also considered.
  • Experience troubleshooting semiconductor manufacturing equipment, including dry etch, plasma processing, RF power, vacuum, robotics, or similar systems.
  • Experience with tool installations, equipment upgrades, retrofits, semiconductor processes, factory automation, and equipment performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 6S, TPM, FMEA, and continuous improvement methodologies.
