AM Service Engineer (Additive Manufacturing): Maintaining, troubleshooting, calibrating, and improving additive manufacturing equipment for aerospace and automotive production with an accent on mechanical, electrical, optical, controls, and process performance. Focus on root-cause analysis, PLC and automation optimization, equipment reliability, production throughput, and precision calibration.

Location: Torrance, California, United States; onsite factory work required up to 100%. The role follows a 4x10 schedule with available shifts on Sun–Wed or Wed–Sat, from 2 p.m. to 1 a.m. or 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Salary: $48.15–$76.47 per hour. Specialist III–V ranges are $41.69–$76.47 per hour.

Divergent develops the Divergent Adaptive Production System, a machine-learning-enabled factory system for engineering, additive manufacturing, and flexible assembly of vehicle structures and subsystems for automotive, aerospace, and defense applications.

What you will do

  • Own the technical performance, maintenance strategy, diagnostics, and continuous improvement of additive manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, optical, controls, and process failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Perform advanced optical, mechanical, and system calibration to maintain precision and process capability.
  • Analyze equipment and production data to improve reliability, reduce downtime and operating costs, and increase throughput.
  • Optimize PLC logic, automation interfaces, machine configurations, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance to production, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams while developing documentation and mentoring technicians.

Requirements

  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology subject to US export controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or an associate degree with equivalent maintenance technician experience; strong equivalent experience may substitute for education.
  • Experience with automation, machine controls, mechanical troubleshooting, electrical troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Interest and ability to work hands-on with additive manufacturing machines, systems, and factory processes.
  • Ability to use hand tools and test equipment, interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, control architectures, and technical documentation.
  • Strong autonomous problem-solving, prioritization, communication, documentation, and collaboration skills in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with metal or other additive manufacturing processes and equipment such as SLM Solutions, EOS, RenAM, or Velo3D.
  • Military technical experience in aviation, aerospace, maintenance, robotics, electronics, machining, or industrial operations.
