Consultant - Specialty Program Underwriting - Alternative Ventures

Location: Remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states. Arizona is listed as the position location. Travel to program manager offices, client meetings, and industry functions may be required.

Salary: $120,000–$180,000 expected starting annual salary; national salary range of $120,000–$224,000.

What you will do

• Underwrite highly complex specialty risks and programs, determining acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, conditions, endorsements, and exclusions.
• Lead the development and integration of new and existing programs, including underwriting guidelines, rates, forms, filings, compliance, claims, finance, legal, and actuarial coordination.
• Analyze program performance, profitability, trends, exposures, and opportunities, recommending corrective actions and new business initiatives.
• Make reinsurance decisions, coordinate treaty, semiautomatic, and facultative reinsurance activities, and prepare data for reinsurer presentations.
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, compliance, legal, accounting, marketing, brokers, and program managers to resolve complex issues and implement program strategies.
• Build program relationships, support marketing visits, and provide direction, training, and mentoring to underwriting staff.

Requirements

• At least five years of related experience as a professional, financial, or specialty lines underwriter.
• Knowledge of professional, financial, and specialty lines underwriting policies, practices, procedures, insurance law, and underwriting marketing principles.
• Strong understanding of financial documents, financial analysis, investments, market conditions, and complex risk exposures.
• Ability to analyze mathematical, statistical, and logical data; manage large programs; and develop solutions to complex underwriting and process challenges.
• Strong communication, influencing, negotiation, project management, and process management skills.
• Must be able to work from within the lower 48 U.S. states and travel locally or overnight as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with U.S. or international financial lines, commercial multi-line insurance, cyber, or professional liability.
• Program leadership experience in professional lines.
• Graduate degree in finance, accounting, economics, or risk management.
• Legal knowledge related to insurance, contract, and business law.
• Experience with data management, imaging, procedures, and process systems.
