Legal Counsel - Dallas, TX (Hybrid)

Location: Richardson/Dallas, Texas; hybrid/remote arrangement with travel required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, memoranda, pleadings, motions, and discovery.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and claim value.
• Handle depositions, examinations before trial, examinations under oath, trials, and dispositive hearings.
• Document case files clearly and professionally for customers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of litigation experience in insurance defense, general defense, and/or personal injury
• Juris Doctor degree required
• Admission to the Texas Bar and an active license in good standing required
• Ability to meet and maintain applicable licensing and Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• Strong organization, prioritization, multitasking, conflict-resolution, and written communication skills.
• Ability to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in writing.
