Specialist, Contract Underwriting - E&S/Specialty - Portfolio Underwriting & Optimization (E&S/Specialty)

Location: Remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states. Travel out of state several times a year and occasional in-town entertaining after 5:00 P.M. may be required.

Salary: $84,000–$156,000 annually. Expected starting salary range: $84,000–$126,000.

What you will do

• Evaluate complex commercial Excess & Surplus risks and determine acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, conditions, endorsements, exclusions, and reinsurance placement.
• Manage assigned territories, agencies, programs, and portfolios to achieve production, profitability, loss ratio, and service objectives.
• Analyze claims, loss history, premium results, agency performance, market conditions, and portfolio trends to recommend and implement corrective action plans.
• Drive product, appetite, pricing, rate, form, and underwriting-system optimization in collaboration with product, technology, underwriting, and agency partners.
• Build and maintain relationships with general agents, program managers, reinsurers, and internal stakeholders through daily communication, audits, training, marketing visits, and industry events.
• Support product and program research, technical assistance, marketing initiatives, and training or mentoring for underwriters and underwriting assistants.

Requirements

• Six years of related experience or five years of underwriting experience, preferably in commercial Excess & Surplus lines.
• Knowledge of commercial E&S property and casualty underwriting, insurance law, rating plans, policy language, underwriting operations, regulatory issues, and market conditions.
• Experience analyzing insurance risks, claims, loss and premium results, portfolio performance, and data-driven underwriting trends.
• Knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance concepts and the wholesale or general agency distribution system.
• Advanced communication, negotiation, decision-making, project management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under limited direction.
• Must be eligible to work within the lower 48 U.S. states; employer-sponsored work authorization is not available.

Nice to have

• Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience.
• Insurance designations or coursework such as CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS, or ASLI.
