Associate Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote, with coverage of New York venues including Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx; travel required for trials, hearings, depositions, meetings, and conferences.

Annual salary: $118,900–$186,550.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in New York courts and handle first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions on liability, damages, and claim value for the Claims Department.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery.
• Conduct and defend depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings.

Requirements

• 2–6+ years of related litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the New York Bar required.
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and maintain applicable licensing and CLE requirements.
• Strong professional writing, organization, prioritization, multitasking, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in writing.
