Manufacturing Engineering Manager (Optical Manufacturing): Leading engineering teams and improving equipment, processes, yield, cycle time, delivery, and cost in the production of ultra-precision optical components and thin-film coatings with an accent on continuous improvement, process technology, and cross-functional manufacturing support. Focus on transferring new processes into manufacturing, troubleshooting equipment and quality issues, improving optical fabrication operations, and developing technical engineering teams.

Location: Boulder, Colorado, United States; onsite

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

  • Lead the recruitment, development, retention, workload management, and performance of the engineering team.
  • Set project priorities and improve equipment and manufacturing processes, including yield, cycle time, on-time delivery, and cost.
  • Lead continuous yield improvement initiatives, root-cause analysis, and cross-functional improvement teams.
  • Partner with manufacturing, facilities maintenance, production, and quality teams to troubleshoot process and equipment issues and document procedures.
  • Align engineering with R&D to transfer new and improved processes into manufacturing and support ECO and NPI activities.
  • Provide technical reviews and product costing, while supporting technical and professional growth across the engineering team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent technical field; a relevant master’s degree is preferred.
  • 8+ years of industry experience and 3+ years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building and leading strong technical teams and influencing cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing, with a record of driving measurable improvements.
  • Experience interpreting drawings and specifications for coated precision optics, including coating design, technical feasibility, and manufacturability.
  • Strong quantitative, communication, reporting, statistical analysis, ERP, database, optical metrology, and assembly skills.

Nice to have

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Business, Engineering Management, or a related field.
