Controls Engineer (Automation)

Location: Onsite in Boulder, Colorado, United States

Salary: $130,000–$165,000 per year, depending on experience

What you will do

• Maintain automated manufacturing equipment, including user training, preventive maintenance, and uptime support.
• Evaluate manufacturing practices and implement automation to improve repeatability, yields, cycle times, and costs.
• Develop business cases and capital-spending justifications for automation projects.
• Build supplier relationships and coordinate equipment deployment and ongoing service.
• Manage project scope, milestones, budgets, timelines, deliverables, and resources.
• Drive Installation, Operational, and Production Qualification activities with Engineering, Safety, and Quality teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent technical field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 8+ years of industry experience.
• Experience with automation equipment business cases and deployment in high-mix manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with robotics, motion controls, vision systems, and PLC programming.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications for coated precision optics and provide technical feedback on coating design, feasibility, and manufacturability.
• Strong quantitative, communication, presentation, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration skills, including experience with quality tools, statistical tools, ERP, databases, PLM tools, SQL applications, and Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
• Master’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
