Director of Mexico Northern Border Customs Operations

Location: On-site in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico

What you will do

• Oversee and optimize daily customs operations across Mexico’s northern border points of entry, with a primary focus on the high-volume Nuevo Laredo port.
• Coordinate customs and warehousing operations to ensure consistent workflows and communication.
• Monitor customs brokerage performance, operational systems, cross-border workflows, and productivity metrics.
• Lead customer onboarding, support, and retention processes for cross-border logistics services.
• Create and implement operational policies, SOPs, and compliance controls to reduce border dwell times and improve efficiency.
• Manage relationships with customers, carriers, customs partners, Mexican customs authorities, and port officials.

Requirements

• Certified Customs Broker certification is required.
• Professional fluency in English and Spanish is required.
• Proven experience leading operational teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Experience managing operational finances, department budgets, and cost-allocation strategies.
• Deep knowledge of Mexican customs law, US–Mexico cross-border regulations, and international trade compliance.

Nice to have

• Experience designing, building, and scaling customs operations from the ground up.
• Knowledge of CTPAT, OEA, and international security and compliance frameworks.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, customs management systems, and data analysis software.
