Forward Deployed Product Designer (AI)

Location: New York, NY or Washington, DC; regular on-site work and travel to government and defense customer sites.

Base salary: $230,000–$270,000 USD in New York; $210,000–$260,000 USD in Washington, DC.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end design for customer-facing government and defense product experiences, from ambiguous requirements through prototypes and implementation.
• Partner with Product from project inception to shape high-stakes planning, operations, or analytical workflows.
• Design dashboards, mapping interfaces, alerting systems, and analytical reporting tools for complex data environments.
• Work directly in code with engineers to build and refine shipped experiences.
• Contribute reusable design assets and interaction patterns to the broader platform.
• Participate in portfolio reviews and interviews while helping grow the design function.

Requirements

• 10–15 years of experience across varied design settings and problem types.
• Senior- or staff-level ownership of end-to-end B2B or enterprise product experiences.
• Experience designing complex workflow interfaces, dashboards, or data-heavy and mapping products.
• Ability to operate in ambiguous environments with evolving customer requirements.
• Strong client-facing presence and confidence presenting design decisions to senior stakeholders in person.
• Working knowledge of front-end development, implementable design handoff, and direct collaboration with engineers; willingness to travel regularly to customer sites.

• Experience presenting directly to senior stakeholders in a client-facing role.
• Exposure to AI/ML tools and use of AI in the design workflow.
• Experience contributing to design systems or shared interaction patterns across products or teams.
