Sr. Consultant, Brokerage Excess Underwriting (E&S/Specialty)

Location: Remote within any of the lower 48 U.S. states; Arizona–Scottsdale listed as the location. Travel to broker offices is required as needed.

Salary: $136,000–$242,000 national annual range; expected starting range of $136,000–$204,000.

What you will do

• Underwrite complex Excess Casualty risks for acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms, conditions, endorsements and exclusions.
• Analyze exposures, claims, loss histories, broker submissions and loss ratios to support account decisions and business goals.
• Research and develop new classes of business, including market viability assessments, forms, endorsements, rates and reinsurance strategies.
• Manage broker and reinsurer relationships, address policy maintenance and mid-term requests, and arrange treaty, semiautomatic or facultative reinsurance.
• Resolve highly complex technical underwriting questions and represent the department in committees and initiatives.
• Lead workflow, coach and mentor underwriters, and teach technical underwriting knowledge to brokers and underwriting staff.

Requirements

• Eight years of commercial lines underwriting experience handling large or complex accounts.
• Experience with Excess and Surplus lines is preferred.
• Knowledge of complex commercial underwriting, insurance law, rating plans, pricing theory, catastrophe management and regulatory issues.
• Knowledge of treaty and facultative reinsurance and the wholesale broker system.
• Advanced analytical, negotiation, communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to work with minimal direction.
• Undergraduate degree preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute. CPCU, CIC, AU, ARM, CPIW, CWIS or ASLI coursework is preferred.

Nice to have

• Insurance professional designations or completion of general insurance courses.
• Experience developing underwriting forms, rates and new business classes.
